The Substitute Bride: Idiot Or Not?

Chapter 34

Winnie understood what was going on the moment she heard that.

Xavier must be giving instructions to these security guards from the control room.

In other words, it was as if she was getting filmed in a live broadcast, for Xavier was watching her every move.

Hence, she halted in her tracks and mulled over it. Then, she quickly found where the cameras were and gave Xavier the finger.

Xavier, who was in the control room, scowled when he saw that.

"D*mn you. How dare you taunt me? Who gave you the guts to do that?"

Winnie had the security guard's walkie-talkie in her hand, so she heard everything Xavier said.

She could also hear that Xavier was livid.

Nevertheless, she had no qualms about fanning the flames. That's what he gets for cheating!

Pushing the talk button, Winnie said in fluent Ustranasion, "Sir, justice is the one that gave me the guts. Mr. Fairchild, your name is known by many people, and most know that you're married. However, I never thought that the leader of Fairchild Corporation would betray his wife on the night of the charity gala. How can an immoral man like you have the right to lead a business empire? Tonight is just a little lesson for you. There's no need for thanks, Mr. Fairchild, because I don't think well of you at all. Also, stop trying to catch me. I'll be honest with you now. As long as I don't want to appear in your line of sight, you'll never catch me."Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

How confident and insane was Winnie to say such things to Xavier?

Other than the few security guards, everyone else in the control room understood what Winnie said.

Xavier was clenching his fists so hard his knuckles turned white.

Even Josiah and Louis did not dare to take a breath.

After punching and shattering one of the display monitors, Xavier ordered, "She entered the dressing room, so she might be changing. Go after her as quickly as you can. I want her caught tonight!" Meanwhile, Winnie picked a few random clothes from the dressing room.

Surveillance cameras were scattered all over the hotel, so she was in no rush to change yet.

Nevertheless, her time taken in the dressing room allowed the rest of the security guards to catch up with her.

Still, Winnie did not panic. Knowing there was a surveillance blind spot in the garden on the first floor, she ran there.

As she ran, she took off her disguise the green-colored contact lenses, the golden wig, and the latexes on her face all had to go.

She was going down the stairs while taking off her wig, so most of her attention was on the hair net. That was how she ended up missing a step.

Just as she thought she was going to fall, a pair of powerful arms grabbed her.

In the next second, she fell against someone's chest.

The moment she was hugged by the other person, she screeched in her mind, Oh my god!

It was because the men's cologne from the person was far too familiar-the faint scent of the ocean.

That was the smell of the cologne that Nathaniel had on him.

Winnie did not expect Nathaniel to be there.

Perhaps she should be glad that the latexes on her face were only half removed, or perhaps she should pray that Nathaniel did not catch a clear glimpse of her in the darkness of the garden. Regardless, Nathaniel was clearly not blind.

"Oh my dear Ms. Gator, you've given me a huge surprise!" Nathaniel said as he slowly removed the green-colored contact lenses on Winnie's face. "Your eyes are beautiful, and they glitter like black onyx. I love this eye color. Did you use prosthetic makeup to conceal your true looks?"

As Nathaniel spoke, he slowly peeled off a piece of latex from the corner of Winnie's eye.

"Stop!" Once Winnie regained her balance, she quickly moved away from Nathaniel's arms. "I'm really sorry, but I have my reasons for that, and I don't have the time to explain them to you right now. I have to go. Someone might seek trouble with you later, and I'll have to apologize for your efforts in dealing with them."

Even though Nathaniel had only seen half of Winnie's true appearance, he was still moved by her beauty.

He adored Aplothian women like her, especially when she was a tycoon.

Nathaniel was sure that he had fallen in love at first sight with the woman in front of him.

"Okay, I'm not afraid of trouble. Maybe I can send you back."

"There's no need for that. If you don't mind, I hope you can help me clean up the mess because there are people after me."

"It'd be my pleasure."

Winnie did not linger there; she swiftly fled after shoving the wig into Nathaniel's hands.

Frankly, the ardent look in Nathaniel's eyes had frightened her earlier. It seemed that the rumors about him having a fetish for Aplothian women were true.

With Nathaniel's help, the people stopped going after Winnie, and she managed to leave the hotel unscathed.

"The woman disappeared after entering the open-air garden. She must have changed during that time and put on a wig because no one who left the hotel looked exactly like her," Josiah said to Xavier. "Why don't we just let it slide for today? Getting everyone to go after her will only ruin the mood of the charity gala. I say we look into her partner for now."

Although Xavier was still irked, he said, "Louis, I'll leave this to you."

“That's right.” Josiah handed a bottle of water to Xavier. "Why did you have to insist on doing this yourself? You were angry for no reason." Xavier was still mad. He called Louis to return and said, "Give me my phone."

When Josiah saw Xavier switching on his phone, and when he saw Yulissa keeping quiet after entering, he gave a hint to his good friend.

"I know what happened just now made you furious, and it's understandable for you to lose your temper. But you have to realize you're quite terrifying when you get mad. You shouldn't ignore Yulissa anymore.

I'm afraid you've frightened her. I remember that the two of you were great when you were together. I don't think you've ever lost your temper like this around her before, right?"

Although Josiah's voice was not loud, Yulissa still heard him.

Indeed, she was frightened earlier, but she also hoped that Xavier would come over to talk to her.

Xavier merely hummed in agreement. He did not budge at all as he continued tapping away on his phone.

He did not know what was going on, but his mind kept replaying what that foreign woman had said earlier.

The woman was looking down on him for betraying his wife and that made him think of Winnie.

"Xavier?" Josiah called out to him again.

Xavier ignored him. However, after a further check on his phone, he realize he had a notification informing him of a missed call from Winnie.

Dumbo called me! She rarely calls me. What happened to her?

Despite his urge to call her back, he did not. He called Mary instead.

Then, he found out from Mary that Winnie had gone to bed early because she was feeling unwell.

Dumbo has been feeling unwell while Yulissa and I were catching up?

The new knowledge frustrated him.

Thus, he kept his phone and said, "Let's go. I'm going back." He then looked at Yulissa icily from a distance. "Where do you live? I'll get someone to send you back." "But Xavier..." Yulissa came over and gently held Xavier's arm.

Her tone was of a lowly pleading one, and those who hear it would not be able to bear it. "We just reunited. Can't you stay here and chat with me tonight?"
