Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now

Chapter 843

Chapter 843:

The more she thought, the more unbearable it became. Hadley clenched her fists tightly against her chest, as if she could somehow squeeze the ache away. But it was too much.

Her heart ached so fiercely, it was hard to breathe.

“Hadley…” Elissa’s voice trembled beside her. She was crying too, her fingers brushing Hadley’s arm in silent support.

Life always seemed to strike the soft-hearted the hardest. Neither of them had ever asked for more than a simple, peaceful life— but even that had proven out of reach.

“Don’t cry… Maybe the baby just wasn’t ready,” Elissa whispered through tears.noveldrama

“Really?” Hadley’s tears faltered, her breath catching. Was it because her intentions hadn’t been pure? Had the child somehow known—known that it was being brought into this world not for its own sake, but to save its sister? Had it refused to come to this world because of that?

Even if it had come into being in her womb, had it felt unwanted… unloved… So it left before she ever had the chance to hold it?

Hadley closed her eyes, pain crashing over her like a wave. “Baby… my baby,” she whispered, voice breaking, “I’m sorry… I failed to keep you safe…”

The words barely left her lips when—

The door to the hospital room burst open.

Eric stood there—tall, sharp-eyed, his presence like a sudden gust of wind that swept all warmth from the room.

“Eric?” Hadley gasped, startled, blinking as if she couldn’t trust what she was seeing.

What was he doing here? He was supposed to be in Laventown—miles and miles away.

He said he’d be gone a week at least…

And yet here he was.

Already back.

Eric said nothing at first. His eyes locked onto hers, hard and unreadable.

He strode toward her, unflinching, until he stood right in front of her. Then, flatly, without ceremony, he said, “You just said you couldn’t keep the baby safe. What did you mean by that?”

Hadley froze.

“Why aren’t you saying anything?” he asked, tone razor-sharp. “Alright, then answer this: why did you sell off your property and assets and transfer the money to Blathe?”

Caught completely off guard, Hadley’s eyes widened—panic flashing across her face like a crack of lightning.

He knew? He must have known!

But, how?

Their eyes locked—and in that brief, agonizing moment, her expression gave her away.

Eric’s lips curled into a cold sneer.

“On my way back from Laventown,” he said, his voice low and cutting, “I couldn’t stop wondering—what would make you transfer your assets to Blathe?”

He leaned in, eyes narrowing with mockery. “Hadley… tell me, is it because you’re planning to leave me? To run off to Blathe?”
