Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now

Chapter 904

Chapter 904:

The car rolled into Millland Road and came to a stop in front of the apartment building.

With his arms full, Phillips accompanied Eric to the door.

Melba opened it with a surprised smile. “Mr. Flynn, what brings you here?”

“Melba,” Eric greeted warmly, setting the bags down. “I brought some gifts for Joy.”

Melba glanced at the pile. “There’s so much!”

“Yes…” Eric’s gaze drifted past her, his attention elsewhere.noveldrama

She caught his distraction. “Hadley’s bathing Joy. They just went in. It’ll take a while—Joy loves playing in the water.”

A flicker of disappointment crossed Eric’s face as he realized he wouldn’t get to see them.

“I’ll just leave everything here and head out.”

“Alright. Take care,” Melba said as she closed the door behind him. Inside, she made her way to the bathroom.

Hadley called out, “Melba? Who was that? The property manager again?”

“No, it was Mr. Flynn,” Melba answered, amused. “He dropped off a ton of gifts. It’s really nice of him.”

Hadley paused, stunned. “He wanted to see Joy?”

Melba grinned knowingly. “I think it was more than that. My guess? He came to see you as well.”

“Melba!” Hadley’s eyes widened. “Don’t start with that nonsense.”

“How is it nonsense?” Melba’s smile deepened. “At my age, I can see things clearer than most. Just wait—you’ll see.”

She crouched to pat Joy’s little head in the tub. “Joy was right… Anyone who meets her mama can’t help but like her.”

Then her expression changed as a thought struck her. “Wait a minute. Didn’t Mr. Flynn say he had a girlfriend? That’s not good!”

She huffed in frustration. “Hadley, this man might not be the right one for you.”

Hadley said nothing, speechless.

Meanwhile, Eric sat in his car, unaware of the conversation unfolding upstairs. He watched the vehicle that had been tailing him.

“Drive around a bit,” he instructed Phillips. “Let’s see how they react.”

“Got it,” Phillips replied, weaving through the city traffic before finally stopping at Poseidon’s Realm.

Still, the car behind them merely followed, keeping its distance.

“What are they playing at?” Eric muttered, frowning. “Pull into the garage. Then take Xander and Theodore and leave.”

Phillips hesitated. “Mr. Flynn, it could be dangerous.”

“Just do it,” Eric ordered firmly.

“Yes, sir.” Phillips obeyed, exiting the car with Xander and Theodore. They stayed close, hidden, ready to act if needed.

Eric stepped out alone, dialing his phone with a wry smile. “Alright, Marshall, quit nagging. I’m almost there—I—”

Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted movement.

The footsteps weren’t Phillips or his bodyguards. It had to be the tail. Eric’s expression shifted. Silently, he ducked behind a column—and struck fast.
