Beth, usually so put-together and composed, was shaking with rage, her chest rising and falling in sharp breaths.

Her voice dripped with disgust. “And why the hell would I call Clayton? So he can rush in here and defend you? Newsflash, sweetheart—I am his fiancée. Caitlin’s fingers trembled as she touched her burning cheek.

Despite resolving not to cry in front of Beth, tears spilled down her face.
