Chapter 1968
Chapter 1968 Job Hunting
In the blink of an eye, two days had passed.
Magnus's body had mostly recovered, and Denise's sympathy had run its course. At seven o'clock sharp, she stood by his makeshift bed and nudged him.
"Get up. Time to look for a job."
Magnus groaned, burying his face in the blanket. "What's the rush? Let me sleep a little longer."
Annoyed at the sight of him still lounging around, Denise said nothing. She simply bent down, grabbed the blanket, and yanked it off with one swift pull.
A wave of cold air hit him, and Magnus curled up instinctively, shooting her a glare. "What was that for?"
"Get up, or I'll splash you with water." She turned and headed to the bathroom without waiting for a reply. Moments later, she reappeared, holding a basin of water and standing squarely in front of him.
Seeing she wasn't bluffing, Magnus scrambled to his feet. "Okay, okay! I'm up!"
Seeing him finally get up, Denise set the basin down. "Good. Get yourself together and find a job. It's time you start paying me back,” she said, then turned to get ready for her own day.
Magnus didn't want to rely on a woman forever. He had dreams of his own, ambitions waiting to be fulfilled.noveldrama
"Just wait. I'll surprise you," he muttered to himself, full of confidence. After all, he had once been a manager. Surely it won't take long for me to get back on my feet, right?
But the reality of job hunting hit him hard. Not only did companies reject him before the interview stage, even small shops turned him away without hesitation.
"You came here without any experience and expect us to hire you?"
"You didn't even apply properly-what makes you think we'd give you a chance?" "Aim for manager? Why not aim to be the CEO while you're at it?"
"Get lost. We don't need lunatics here."
Magnus was turned away from one company after another. That was when he finally realized-if he wanted to work for someone else, he needed to submit resumes online.
He had always been the one doing the hiring, so he had never gone through the process himself. Now with no other option, he had to
swallow his pride. That even ne
he
approached Denise and asked to borrow her phone and computer to submit applications.
When she helped him fill out his resume, she asked about his education and work history. Magnus, naturally, took the opportunity to brag endlessly.
But after sending out resume after resume, not a single response came.
Denise tried to talk some sense into him. "You should start from the bottom. Apply for an entry-level job first."
"No way," Magnus snapped. "I've always been the boss. How could I settle for being a regular employee?"
Denise looked at him, completely unimpressed. His stubbornness bordered on delusional.
"Anyway, I'm giving you three days," she said bluntly. "If you don't have a job by then, you're out."
Magnus no longer carried the same bravado as before, but his confidence remained intact. "Don't worry," he assured her. "I'll definitely find a job within three days. Just wait and see."
"I'll be waiting," Denise replied, somewhat amused by his unwavering self-
assurance.
But confidence alone couldn't land him a job. The first day passed with no offers, not even a callback.
By the second day, Magnus was
finally willing to lower his
Vel
expectations. He came close to securing a position as a junior employee at a small company. However, he found the supervisor too overbearing, ended up saying the wrong thing, and was promptly dismissed before he even started.
By the third and final day, Magnus was thoroughly discouraged. "Why is it so hard to find a job these days?" he muttered gloomily.
Denise shot him a look. "That's what happens when your ambition outweighs your ability. If you're out of options, you can come work with me as a waiter. The job doesn' require much, and at least it bring in some income while you keep looking for something better."
In truth, the salary of an average office worker wasn't all that different from that of
a waiter. At the club where Denise worked, her base pay combined with tips added up to a decent income.
Magnus had been hesitant at first, but with it being the final day and still jobless, he found himself out of options. With no better choice, he reluctantly agreed.
What do you think?
