When Her "Death" Couldn't Break Him

Chapter 1990

Chapter 1990 Making It Up To Her

Magnus was all curled up, hugging his knees. His head was hanging low. He had no idea how much time had passed when the sound of footsteps reached him.

He slowly lifted his head, only to see Denise approaching. She was bundled up in

a down jacket, a hat, and a scarf, carrying groceries in her hands.

Magnus was somewhat taken aback.

He rubbed his eyes, somewhat incredulous at the sight of her.

"Denise! This isn't a dream, is it?"

Upon hearing his question, Denise didn't respond. She walked straight up to him, her eyes filled with indifference.

"What are you doing here? Haven't you deceived me enough?"

She gave a bitter smile. "I'm broke. I don't have a single penny left."

Upon hearing her voice, Magnus was certain he hadn't misheard. He quickly grasped Denise's hand.

"Denise, I'm sorry. I'm sorry..."noveldrama

Denise flung his hand away. "What's the point of saying this now?"

Magnus' hand hung limply in mid-air, his throat aching.

At that time, all he could do was apologize, as he was utterly powerless to do anything else.

His face was pale as he slowly asked, "Did something really happen to Mr. and Mrs. Laney?"

"You took the money meant for their medical expenses, yet you're asking this question. Don't you find it ironic?" Cecilia asked.

Magnus felt as if something was stuck in his throat. He had initially intended to explain why he took the money, but now, it seemed futile.

He had been too presumptuous before, thinking that he could simply double the hundred thousand and then give it to Denise. He was sure that would have made Denise very happy.

"Can I make it up to you in any way?" Magnus asked, trembling.

"No need. Get lost!" Denise said coldly.

Magnus, however, stood in front of her. "I will repay you twofold. I promise to return all the money to you. About your parents. I... I'm sorry..."

He wasn't sure what else to say. After leaving a parting remark, he hastily took his leave.

Denise turned to look at his retreating figure, her eyes filled with a myriad of emotions.

Her parents were unharmed, thanks to the assistance of a man named Sven.

She found it increasingly difficult to understand Magnus. Is he genuinely malicious, simply foolish, or just too careless?

Denise shook her head, unwilling to dwell on it anymore. She opened the door to her room and hurriedly prepared a meal.

She was so exhausted from work every day that she didn't even have the energy to do anything after eating. She wouldn't bother with washing up or brushing her teeth, choosing to go straight to sleep.

During the couple of days after Magnus had left, she was constantly second-guessing herself. She felt that she was being too altruistic and that she shouldn't have been so quick to help others. Now that Magnus had suddenly returned, she found herself hoping that he was a good person.

She truly hoped that Magnus would be able to repay the money to her.

Exhausted and overwhelmed by the drowsiness, Denise quickly succumbed to sleep.

Her phone, that was set aside, rang but didn't rouse her from sleep.

The next day, at nine in the morning, Denise woke up. She picked up her phone and noticed several missed calls.

They were from her manager, as well as other colleagues.

Denise immediately called back, "Sir, is there a problem?"

Finally, the manager saw her call

and hurriedly said, "Denise

weren't you answering your

why

Do you know that Magnus came back again last night?"

"Why did he do that?" Denise was somewhat baffled.

"Sigh, it's hard to explain everything right now. Just come to the hospital and hurry," the manager said.

"The hospital?"

Before Denise had a chance to think, she ended the call, slipped on her coat, and hurriedly rushed to the hospital.

By the time she arrived, the manager pointed toward the operating room and said

to Denise. “Magnus is in there."

Denise's eyes narrowed, disbelief etched in them.

"How could this be? What happened?"
