Chapter 130
Clara didn't know that Wren hadn't left Longfield as agreed.
Once in the car, Wren sent Liam a message informing him that he would be a few days late in returning to Phoypolis. He then had the driver pick up John and have him take him to view some houses. Wren understood Clara's personality well. He knew that once she made up her mind, she wouldn't let him stay in her house. She would be determined to make him leave.
So, once he was certain she wouldn't return with him, he considered renting a place here.
He had already contacted John at that time and asked him to keep an eye out for any houses for rent near Clara's.
But, most houses in the countryside were built by the villagers themselves for their own use. It was very rare to find a rental like the one Clara had and even harder to find one near hers. Of course, this posed no challenge for Wren.
He had John contact the nearby residents and offered to buy their homes at a high price. The money he offered was enough to cover the cost of buying a residential property in the city.
John had messaged him the day before. He informed him that three families were willing to sell their houses.
Wren immediately inquired about the locations. He chose the one closest to Clara's house, behind her small yard.
After signing the contract, Wren transferred the money to them on the spot.
The young couple had received the news the night before and had almost finished packing. They had already purchased a house in the country town earlier in the year but hadn't moved in yet.
They were naturally willing to sell their old house now that someone was willing to pay a high price for it. They immediately agreed to pack up and move out today after receiving the money.
Wren didn't say much but instructed John to arrange for someone to clean up the house once they had moved out. He had John buy some furniture and essentials as well, then headed to Clara's school on his own. Before going, he had already obtained the principal's phone number and called ahead.
It was during class hours when Wren arrived at the school. Ethan had no class that period, so the principal had asked him to assist by greeting Wren at the door.
Wren didn't know which class Clara was in, so as he walked past the classrooms, he kept glancing inside.
Ethan learned that Wren had come to the school to make a donation. When he saw Wren constantly looking inside the classrooms, he assumed Wren found it fascinating.
He smiled as he introduced thenoveldrama
school, "These students are from Moonbay village. Their families are not well-off, and many of them are children in foster care. The oldest students are in fifth grade.
"The village school lacks the
educational resources that the town schools have. Few teachers are willing to stay in the village, especially Zhanese teachers.
Teachers from the towns net
would come over to give them a
couple of lessons, but this has led to poor foundations."
Ethan continued explaining, "But it's an unavoidable situation. The town school is too far away, and these children are young. Some of the ones living farther away would have
to wake up before dawn to get there.
"The school had planned to cancel fifth grade next year. They planned to send the kids to the town school for the sake of their future.
"Fortunately, a Ms. Salford volunteered to teach here. She solved the school's immediate problem. Her presence allowed these children to continue attending classes in the village school." Ethan wasn't paying attention to Wren's expression.
When he mentioned Clara, they had reached the door to the class she was teaching.
Ethan's eyes lit up, and he pointed to Clara, who was standing in the center of the classroom. She was reviewing vocabulary words. He smiled and introduced her to Wren, "That is Ms. Salford." Wren had already spotted Clara without Ethan pointing her out. He stopped in his tracks when he saw her confident and bright demeanor.
Wren gazed at her with an almost greedy intensity. He couldn't remember the last time he had seen such a smile on Clara's face. It was a smile that came from the heart, filled with warmth and joy. A smile that she hadn't shown him in what seemed like a long time.
It felt like ever since he distanced himself from her, there had been a trace of sadness in the way she looked at him.
Wren's heart clenched, and that suffocating pain surged from deep within him again.
It turned out that the rift between them had begun long ago.
