Chapter 1061
Connor glanced over. "If you're hungry, go ahead and eat first."
Chloe smiled, a soft warmth in her eyes. "I'd rather wait for my husband."
They sat down together, and for a moment, it felt surreal-like they'd slipped into another lifetime. So much had changed, but here they were, side by side.
Connor still couldn't quite believe it all. He'd started out just wanting to find Chloe's mentor, hoping she could get her memories back. But then, out of nowhere, everything had come rushing back to her. Fate had its own plans.
He turned to her. "So... when did it all come back to you?"
Chloe took a sip of her soup, letting the warmth settle her nerves. She looked up at him. "When you were trapped in that iron cage, it was like my mind was being crushed. Suddenly, it felt like a door just flew open, and everything came flooding back."
Connor hadn't realized she'd remembered everything at that moment. But thinking back, it made sense-the way she'd kissed him so naturally, the way she moved, so familiar and sure. She was the Chloe he'd always known, even if he hadn't fully understood it then. All he'd cared about was being close to her again.
His thoughts were a whirlwind. "Well, I guess something good came out of all that chaos."
He remembered something and leaned in. "Earlier you said you had something to tell me. What is it?"
Chloe nodded, her expression turning serious. "A lot came back to me. Do you remember how I kept forgetting things, even before I disappeared?”noveldrama
"Of course I remember," Connor said quietly.
She went on, "Grant was already controlling me back then. I found out one of his secrets, so he had Amelia hypnotize me-made me forget everything I'd learned."
Connor frowned. "Grant's secret?"
Chloe's eyes darkened. "Grant is a descendant of the Grevenberg family."
Connor's brows shot up. The name brought a flood of old rumors and suspicions. "You mean... the Grevenbergs? The family that was wiped out fifty years ago?"
Chloe nodded. "One person
survived-Grant's father. Grant told me his dad is gone now, but he grew up on stories about revenge. His whole life has been about getting even. And the people he blames? The Sartori family."
Shock flickered across Connor's face.
"Wait, are you saying the Sartoris had something to do with what happened to the Grevenbergs?"
Chloe hesitated, but she knew she had to say it. "Grant told me... the person who killed the whole Grevenberg family was Jeffery."
Connor's eyes went wide. He stared at her, stunned. "No way. That's impossible. Jeffery? It can't be."
Chloe was quiet for a second. “I know it sounds insane. But that's what Grant said. He was certain."
Connor shook his head, trying to make sense of it. "The Grevenbergs were one of the most powerful families in Eldridge City. There were so many of them. How could a single person do that? Jeffer talented, sure, but he's not some kind of superhuman."
To him, Jeffery had always just been a self-made man-smart, lucky, a little cold,
but not a killer. He'd built his fortune with brains, not violence.
Chloe's voice dropped. "Jeffery isn't
who you think. He was trained by Crimson Moon, the world's largest assassin organization. His codename was Wolf. I still don't
know how he got tangled up with the
Grevenbergs, but... that's the truth."
A heavy silence settled between them. Connor felt like he couldn't breathe, as if a
weight was pressing down hard on his chest.
What do you think?
