Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover

Chapter 1062

But he still didn't quite believe it.

Then something seemed to click for Chloe. "My mentor was from that organization too. He once asked me to give something to Jeffery. I bet he knows what's really going on. The problem is, I have no idea where my mentor is now."

Connor looked at her. "And the thing your mentor wanted you to give Jeffery- where is it?"

"It's at the Shaw family estate," Chloe said.

"Call your brother, tell him what's happening, and ask him to bring that item over. Tomorrow, we'll go see Jeffery together and finally get some answers," Connor suggested.

Chloe nodded. "Yeah, that's probably best."

Some knots can only be untied by the person who tied them in the first place, she thought. And this was something Jeffery would have to face himself.

They finished up their dinner in quiet anticipation.

Afterwards, Chloe called Kash.

At that moment, Kash was leading a whole squad up Rooster Hill, searching every corner. They'd even broken into the restricted area at the back, where they found a bunch of old graves.

When he heard that Chloe and Connor had gotten away safely, Kash finally let out a long breath. He filled Chloe in on what was going on: just a few hours earlier, Grant had stormed back in, furious, and then disappeared. No one knew where

he'd gone.

Chloe had a pretty good guess he was probably hiding out in the underground cells.

Her memory was clear now. She remembered how, last time, she'd found the hidden switch in the hallway that opened the secret door to the underground cells. She quickly told Kash about it.

With a team of security experts, Kash managed to find the entrance. When they went down, there was Grant, just like she'd suspected.

Kash stepped forward. "Mr. Grant, we're arresting you for unlawful imprisonment."

Grant glared, his brow furrowed. "What proof do you have?"

Following Chloe's directions, Kash searched a crack in the stone wall-and there it was: Chloe's necklace.

Kash held it up. "This is all the proof we need."noveldrama

Meanwhile, Chloe found out Kash had actually arrested Grant. She finally felt like she could breathe again.

She ended the call, and Connor asked, "So? How'd it go?"

"I told my brother everything. Grant's been detained, but honestly,

convicting him won't be easy," Chloe admitted. "He's got people backing him that was clear even back on Paradise Island. And Broup's lawyers are ruthless."

Connor squeezed her hand. "Let's talk to Jeffery tomorrow and see what he says."

Chloe nodded, feeling a little lighter.

Connor suddenly raised an eyebrow, a playful look in his eyes. "Mrs. Shaw, I think it's time we got some rest."

Chloe shot him a teasing side-eye, lashes fluttering. Then she stood up and sauntered away, pure mischief in her step.

Connor hurried after her.

Just as they reached the door, they spotted the butler wheeling a food cart down

the hallway, loaded with an impressive array of dishes.

Connor called out, "Mr. Zhao, what's all the food for?"

The butler replied, "There's a guest staying at Lakeview Cottage. He's very particular about what he eats, and he likes a midnight snack. I'm just bringing this over to him."

Connor frowned. Since when did they have a guest? And staying at Lakeview Cottage, of all places?

Lakeview Cottage was the most secluded house on the property, built right in the middle of the lake The name sounded pretty, but the place had always been abandoned. No one ever went out there, not even the staff.

The butler continued, "Sir, you've been away a long time. That guest has actually

been living at Lakeview Cottage for almost a year now."
