Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover

Chapter 1073

When Chloe's name came up, Grant's brow creased with irritation.

Taylor didn't hold back-he told Grant everything Chloe had said, every last word. When he finished, silence settled between them, heavy and unspoken.noveldrama

Then Grant suddenly let out a dry laugh. "So she makes up a story and you just swallow it? What, do they really think I'm that gullible? All these years, everything I've believed in, everything I've worked for-do they honestly think a couple of made-up lines can just erase all of that? What makes them think I'm so easy to fool?"

Taylor looked at him, steady. "I don't think they're making it up."

Grant's eyes flashed. "That's just because you don't want them to be our enemies, Taylor! Our ancestors-so many lives lost, crying out from the grave. Can't you feel it?"

Taylor's voice was soft, but there was a stubbornness in it. "But wouldn't it be better if they weren't our enemies? Isn't it possible-just maybe that this is all a mistake?"

He hesitated, then went on, "Big brother, you've hated for so long that revenge has become your whole world. I know how much you've given up for this family feud-including Chloe. So you can't accept that maybe this was all some huge misunderstanding, that maybe you've been fighting for something that isn't even real. Because if it is, you'd lose everything your faith, your purpose. Isn't that right?"

Grant's face went cold, his eyes darkening.

Taylor was right, and Grant knew it.

He didn't want this to be a misunderstanding. He'd lived every day with revenge burning in his chest. It was all he had left. For vengeance, he'd given up everything and everyone-until there was nothing but this belief keeping him going.

But if, after all this time, someone told him that it wasn't Jeffery or even Nemo who'd killed the Grevenberg family-then what had his whole life been for? What about the plans he'd made, the people he'd used, the things he'd done? If it wasn't justice, what was it?

His life would be nothing but a punchline to a cruel joke.

Taylor gripped his hand, urgent. "Big brother, just let it go. There's still time to turn back. I really believe they're telling the truth. If they were going to make up a story, why wait all these years, until they're old and gray? They both thought they were carrying the blame alone, and they've never even met. Besides, Nemo was your mentor. Once a mentor, always like family. Do you honestly want him to be the one who murdered our ancestors?"

"If you have a chance to put down your hate and make peace with the world, isn't that a good thing?"

Suddenly, Grant remembered something Amelia had said before she left.

She'd looked at him and asked, "Don't you want to live like a real person?"

That question had shaken him more than he cared to admit.

He found himself thinking about it all the time.

Her words echoed in his mind, louder and more insistent with each passing day.

It was like there were two sides of him now.

One side hid in the darkness, letting it swallow him whole.

The other was fighting-reaching, desperate for even a sliver of light.

Lately, that fighting part had been screaming, louder than ever, impossible to ignore.

Taylor's words had hit him hard.
