Chapter 373
Miranda's words left Carter momentarily stunned. They echoed in his mind.
What did that place have to do with her anyway?
After dropping that line, Miranda walked away without a hint of hesitation, as if she didn't care at all.
"She didn't even ask about the Hawke family," Darcy would say. "Not even a bit curious."
Carter felt a pang of frustration.
Being the heir to the Hawke family should be far more enticing than any other family, even more than the Lancaster family.
Especially since she was a Hawke by blood.
It was her rightful place.
"Such a waste. She's incredibly talented. In the current generation of the Hawke family, no one holds a candle to her skills. Even if she just took a nominal role and let her team handle things, they'd outperform the others by a mile."
He was, of course, referring to Marion.
If Miranda returned to the family, Marion would naturally join the ranks of the Hawke Group.
Even if Miranda didn't take the lead, Marion alone could stabilize the situation.
He admired Marion and desired a lawyer like Maximus.
But more than these two, he understood that Miranda was the key.
Only by securing her could he get the others.
And maybe even more.
Who knows how many other hidden talents were under her wing?
Carter frowned, "She's so capable that she doesn't need to return to the family. The Hawke family doesn't have anything that interests her. She's right, there's nothing and no one there that really matters to her."
Alden glanced at him, exasperated, "What are you talking about? She has Hawke, blood. If she came back, do you know how much she could benefit the family? Forget it, you wouldn't understand anyway."
Carter didn't care about benefits and profits, but he knew one thing: you can't force someone to do something they don't want to do.
And with Miranda's talent, why should she have to work for the Hawke family?
"How did you meet her, anyway? What's your relationship like?" Alden asked suddenly.
Carter snapped back to reality, "I met her while driving for a ride-sharing service."
Darcy was speechless. The idea of the Hawke family's heir moonlighting as a ride-share driver was absurd.
"You two get along well then?"
Carter grinned, "Of course."
"Then why don't you talk to her? Think about it, if she comes back,
you'd see her all the time. Having such a talented sister would be ha
something to be proud of. You could just follow her lead!"
Darcy knew how to play people. His words started to sway Carter.
Wait a minute.
"I can stick with her even if she doesn't go back," Carter's eyes lit up. "Then I won't have to go back either. If my mom asks, you can just say I'm with my sister." Darcy was at a loss for words.
He never seemed to get it, and now he chooses this moment to be clever.
He looked in the direction Miranda had gone, sighing softly.
She was a tough nut to crack.
He wasn't about to give up so easily, though. He just needed a change of strategy.
"For now, stay in Virell, spend some time with her. Tell her that her grandfather would love to see her. She should visit him if she's free. The doors of the Hawke Group will always be open to her." noveldrama
