Not Your Doormat Anymore

Chapter 79

"Is that so? I'll wait for him then."

I looked up calmly. After all, I had wealthy parents too. When the restaurant manager saw how composed I was, he didn't try to persuade me any further. Instead, he served the dishes politely.

Despite everything that happened, the meal turned out to be quite pleasant. However, by the time we started eating, the other diners had already left because of what had happened, making it feel like we had reserved the entire restaurant.

In the end, we didn't even use the three thousand dollars that Kourtney had prepared.

"It's actually my first time at such a fancy restaurant. The food is really amazing. When I get my salary next time, I'll treat you to a meal again."

Kourtney was pleased with the meal. When we stepped out of the restaurant, she was still grinning at me.

"I can't keep letting you treat me to meals. It's on me next time." I shut her idea down. I was a grown man-how could I let a woman keep treating me to meals? What would that make me?

"That works too. We'll take turns treating each other to meals."

I had no idea what Kourtney was thinking as she smiled happily. When we were about to leave, we suddenly heard a cry for help not too far away.

Since I had been a doctor for years, I immediately stopped in my tracks. Once I pinpointed the direction of the sound, I rushed toward it. Not knowing what was happening, Kourtney followed behind me.

We ran all the way to a corner of the parking lot, where we saw a well-dressed woman calling for help. Next to her was a man lying on the ground, clutching his chest.

"I'm a doctor. Let me check on him."noveldrama

I rushed over instantly. The woman, as if grabbing onto her last hope, anxiously said, "My father was fine just now, but he suddenly clutched his chest and collapsed. I already called for an ambulance, but they can't get here right away. What should I do?"

I checked the man's face. It was red and twitching slightly, and his breathing was rushed but shallow. As he lay on the ground, he was immobile.

I immediately began emergency treatment and instructed the woman, "Search for the nearest hospital. We need to get him there as soon as possible. This looks like an acute stroke. If he isn't treated soon, it could be fatal."

"I'll search right now." The woman's voice trembled. It was obvious that it was her

first time facing such a situation. Her entire body was shaking.

After searching, she looked up. "There's only a private hospital one mile away. Can we go there now?"

"Yes."

After I made sure it was safe to move the man, I helped get him into the car At the same time, I turned to Kourtney. "Call a driver to take the car home. I'll go with her to the hospital and head back later."

Knowing it was a matter of life and death, Kourtney nodded and took the keys

from me.

The woman got into the driver's seat

and drove to the private hospital, following the navigation. However when we arrived, we realized the hospital looked rundown. It seemed like it was on the verge of closing down.

Even in the emergency area, there were barely any staff around. Still, since the man's condition was urgent, they eventually agreed to clear a ward after we insisted.

A nurse said hesitantly, "Our hospital's doctors are all off-duty right now, and none

are available for surgery. Why don't you try another hospital?"

"This is a life-or-death situation. Call the doctor over now!"

Back when I was a doctor, if an emergency surgery was needed, even if the

doctor was on break, they would have to rush back immediately.

The nurse shook her head. "Our situation is a bit complicated. The doctors can't return in such a short time."

"If we delay any longer, he won't make it." I quickly made a decision. "There must at least be an operating room, right? I'll do the surgery myself!"
