Chapter 80
The nurse was momentarily stunned; she hadn't expected me to say that. "Who are you?"
"I'm Jace Ranford. You can look me up online. Hurry up and prepare the operating room, or it's going to be too late."
The nurse was still hesitating when a sharp voice rang nearby. "What are you waiting for? Prepare the operating room now! This is a matter of life and death. We're a hospital. We can't just stand by and watch a patient die."
The nurse immediately nodded and rushed off to get people to prepare the operating room.
I turned around and saw a woman in a white coat walking toward me. When she saw me, she smiled. "Dr. Ranford, what a coincidence. We meet again. I'm Nadine Thorpe."
I didn't recognize her at all. I frowned and asked, "Are you a doctor here? Can't you perform the surgery?"
Nadine was taken aback before she shook her head. "I'm a gynecologist. This isn't my area of expertise."
That explained it. I nodded, and my expression softened. "This hospital was the only one nearby, and given how urgent this is, we'll have to borrow your operating room."
"No problem. I trust your skills."
Nadine seemed to have full confidence in me. Not long after, the operating room was ready, and Nadine called over another nurse so the two of them could assist
me.
The surgery process wasn't smooth; in fact, it was extremely challenging.
Nonetheless, I had performed over a thousand surgeries in my career, and I had
seen worse.
I maintained my composure. Since Nadine and the nurse were quite obedient as they assisted me, the surgery was finally over after six hours.
Once the patient was wheeled out, I removed my mask as exhaustion hit me. "Take him to the ward and put him on an IV drip. I'll write up a prescription later."
"Got it."
When I stepped out of the operating room, I saw the patient's daughter anxiously waiting outside. "Dr. Ranford, how's my father?"
For the past few hours, the woman hadn't taken any rest. She had been waiting outside the operating room the whole time.
"The surgery was a success. He just needs to stay in the hospital for some time. Once he recovers, he can be discharged."
After hearing what I said, the woman finally let out a sigh of relief.
"Thank goodness." She muttered, "This is all my fault. If I hadn't insisted he come out to have a meal with me today, none of this would have happened."noveldrama
"It isn't your fault." I frowned, interrupting her.
The woman looked at me in confusion. explained, "This situation happened because of long-term exhaustion and irregular sleep patterns. Make sure he gets at least eight hours of sleep every day from now on. Tell him not to stress too much. If not, this could happen again."
As the woman listened, she covered her face with her hands and cried silently.
I had seen many family members
like her, so I didn't say anything else.
I went straight to the nurses' station and wrote up the prescription. Then,
I turned to Nadine.
"Your hospital's doctors should be back by tomorrow, right? Just have them
continue with the prescription I've written."
Nadine seemed a bit awkward. "They won't be coming back."
I was taken aback. "Their breaks are that long?"
Back in my previous hospital, even getting a day off was rare. Having no doctors
on duty for two or three days straight was unheard of.
"Dr. Ranford, to be honest, our hospital is about to close down." Nadine sighed and told me the truth. "I haven't left because I still have a few pregnant patients who haven't delivered yet. Once they give birth and are discharged from the hospital, I'll be leaving too."
The nurse beside us nodded. "No one's paying us anymore."
What do you think?
