Chapter 261 What a Coincidence
I looked up in surprise. "Really?"
I had expected that Cornell Group wouldn't flourish as they once did with my interference. But I hadn't anticipated their downfall to be this fast. A 10% drop might not sound like much, but in their case, it meant evaporating hundreds of millions of dollars overnight.
Eric nodded. "Of course. I noticed it while checking the stock market these past few days. I know you've been busy lately and haven't had time to keep up with shares, so I wanted to tell you the moment I found out. But..." His tone turned serious. "To recover their losses, they're planning to launch a new project."noveldrama
I paused for a moment before testing the waters. "New energy?"
Eric's eyes widened in surprise. "How did you know?"
I let out an awkward chuckle and quickly came up with something. "Renewable energy is the current trend. If they want to make up for their losses, of course, they'd want a piece of the pie."
Of course, that wasn't the real reason.
In my past life, Cornell Group had indeed ventured into the new energy sector, but much later. Back then, they had secretly siphoned resources from Brown Group and infiltrated Zentera Group. Only then did their push into renewable energy feel like a strategic flourish.
But this time? Who knew if it would be their saving grace or a desperate gamble?
I recalled a banquet I had once hosted. The attendees were industry experts, all handpicked by Jeremiah at the time. If my memory served me right, many of those people hadn't made a name for themselves back then.
I lifted my gaze to Eric. "What about you? Do you want in on this?"
Eric shook his head. "The company doesn't have the capacity to branch out right now. We're focusing on research and development. If we succeed, our market value will skyrocket tenfold."
I nodded in understanding. "In that case, I'll give it a shot."
...
True to my word, the next day, I called a board meeting to discuss our entry into the renewable energy sector.
There were some murmurs of doubt but no outright objections. After all, my past track record spoke for itself.
Jack started to say something, but I shot him a look, and he swallowed his words. At a time like this, he needed to remember that I still held leverage over Elsa.
The vote passed unanimously.
Back at the office, I had someone reach out to a few students currently studying renewable energy. They were about to graduate and be future giants of the industry.
Though they were still unpolished gems right now, unnoticed by the world, I had to seize the opportunity.
After making the arrangements, I left the office and set off to meet a real industry leader.
Before heading out, I stopped by home to prepare a pot of pork stew. Once it was ready, I packed it up and brought it along.
Before long, my car pulled up in front of a discreet villa on the outskirts of town. This was the home of Sebastian Simpson-one of the top names in the domestic renewable energy sector.
Many of the industry's big players were either backed by the government or enjoying cushy positions in leading enterprises But Mr. Simpson? He kept a low profile, burying himself in research. In my past life, it had taken Jeremiah and me an enormous amount of effort to convince him to step forward.
And it was his leadership that ultimately brought others into the field, skyrocketing Cornell Group's market value several times over.
Just as I stepped out of the car, I caught sight of two familiar figures-Jeremiah and Elsa.
So, they were here too. They were clearly trying to recruit talent through Mr. Simpson's influence.
Elsa noticed me first. A flicker of discomfort crossed her face, but she quickly composed herself and approached me with a sweet smile. "Wow, what a coincidence, Jane!"
Her gaze landed on the insulated food container in my hand, and she tilted her head in curiosity. "Is Eric around here too? Have you started delivering meals to him now?"
Jeremiah walked over, wrapping an arm around Elsa's waist as he shot
me a taunting look. "Marrying Eric won't change a thing. You'll still end up as a housewife. I don't even know why you put up a fight."
I rolled my eyes. "And what exactly does that have to do with you?"
What do you think?
