Revenge is best served cold

Jeremiah and Elsa might've been extremely unhappy about Mr. Simpson's decision, but they still had to accept it. They left the room with a dejected expression on their faces.

Mr. Simpson saw it and scoffed disdainfully. He looked at me condescendingly. "What's your name?"

"I'm Jane Brown, the vice president of Brown Group." I lowered my head submissively and responded softly.noveldrama

Mr. Simpson nodded and fell into deep thought. After a brief moment, he suddenly spoke up, and his eyes sparkled with curiosity. "That was Jeremiah Cornell, the general manager of Cornell Group, right?"

I nodded. "Exactly. I didn't think you'd know him since you very rarely go outside."

Mr. Simpson cleared his throat. "Keeping tabs on gossip is something I love to do when I have some time on my hands."

I did know about it from my past life. It was just that I tended to talk to Mrs. Simpson most of the time. So, I didn't quite fully grasp just how gossipy he could be.

Mr. Simpson noticed that I wasn't put off, and he continued, "If memory serves me right, you two were married. Are you two divorced now?"

I giggled. It looked like the old timer didn't keep tabs on the latest news.

"We've been divorced for a long time. In fact, I'm married to another man now." I showed him the diamond ring on my finger.

Mr. Simpson was shocked. "This means that the lady from earlier is his new girlfriend, then."

I nodded. "Yeah. She's my younger sister too."

His eyes widened in surprise. Although he didn't say it out loud, I just knew he was thinking about a dramatic and convoluted story.

After we talked about the gossip, he was almost done eating the stew as well. He couldn't help but get a little sentimental. "My wife traveled overseas for a leisure trip. It's been a long time since I've had such a wonderful stew, and I thank you for that."

Mr. Simpson regained his composure and said, "You can tell me about the reason

you came here now. Also, don't lie to me. I can tell."

He said the last part with a solemn look on his face.

I cleared my throat. "Actually, I came here for the same reason as Jeremiah did. I

also wish that you could join me on our new energy research team."

I pondered on it for a few seconds before I continued, "Truth be told, I'm sitting in front of you because I want to scoop you up for myself and prevent him from getting you."

Mr. Simpson didn't expect me to be this straightforward either. He raised an eyebrow and signaled for me to keep going.

I cleared my throat again. "Although

my younger sister and Jeremiah are together, that doesn't mean we're family. We're competitors when it comes down to it. The Cornell family used to wrong my family. So I'm serious about taking their business opportunities away from them.

"However, what drives me more is my desire to make the new energy industry shine with my own hands want to leave more affordable and better resources for society. If you join Cornell Group, your unique ideas will be severely restricted, and I know that you're very ambitious. You've made it your goal to make the world a better place. Am I right?"

Mr. Simpson nodded slowly. It looked like he strongly agreed with what I said.

I continued, "You have my word that we'll be partners through and through if you

join Brown Group. I won't interfere in your scientific research in the slightest. Also, you're free to name other terms as you see fit."

I gave Mr. Simpson a sincere look, worried that he might think I was merely brushing him off.

He remained quiet for a long time after he heard what I said. I was so nervous that my heart was in my throat.

I did know a little about Mr. Simpson's character, but it would be wrong to say that

I had absolute confidence in persuading him when he was such a cunning man.

Eventually, he raised his head and looked at me. He said slowly, "I believe in everything you just said, but it'd be quite hasty if I agreed to join your team right now."
