Chapter 250 No Patience
Michael couldn't shake off the weird vibes he'd been getting from Emily lately. Was she and Daniel an item now? The thought made his stomach churn.
His forehead creased, and an annoying feeling gnawed at him. Daniel had always been a sore spot for Michael. The guy was stringing along his sister Veda, never fully committing, while also messing around with Emily. He didn't have the guts to come clean to his family yet claimed that he could give up everything for Emily.
Michael knew how marriages worked in wealthy families. Daniel would never sacrifice it all for Emily. He wanted her to see that and, more importantly, not get hurt again. One heartbreak from a rich family was enough.
Meanwhile, in the hospital room...
Emily paused while peeling an orange and made a firm promise to Isabella. "Mom, I'm ready to give up everything."
Isabella sighed, giving Emily that knowing mom look. After a moment, she said, "Emily, I know you better than anyone. You had a thing for Michael three years ago. Feelings can't be forced, but I know you haven't let him go. You say you don't care about what people think or the Smith family drama, but you're just fooling yourself."
Emily felt a pang of doubt. Was her mom right? Did she really care that much about Michael and the Smith family?
Seeing Emily's uncertainty, Isabella sighed and took her hand. "Emily, I know my own body. I'm getting better, and I'll keep supporting you. Since I'm still here, it means I can still help."
"You're still married to Michael. As a Smith, you have to think about the family. But when it comes to the lawsuit with the Browns, I can handle it; don't worry about me. Follow your heart."
"You've told me a lot these past few days. You said Michael bullied you and tried to control you, but I can tell you don't really dislike him. To feel that way, there's only one word for it..."
Seeing the teasing smile on Isabella's face, Emily blushed. She knew what her mom was getting at. "Mom, I can't just let you handle Dad alone. That man..."
Emily didn't truly disrespect her father, but she knew what kind of person Hayden was. He was stubborn, and ever since he married Evelyn, their relationship had grown distant.
Emily wasn't a kid anymore, and she understood what people said: a stepmother can push a father away from his original children.
Emily didn't expect Hayden to love her like he used to. But when things hit rock bottom, it always looked the worst.
She hated that her dad was so greedy and was even more worried about her mom fighting alone, especially with Evelyn and Sophia being such a handful.
But Isabella seemed set on her decision. Her eyes brightened, and her expression turned resolute. She was determined to go to court and didn't want Emily too involved. "I know what kind of person your father is. I had you with him and have been with him for years. I know his selfishness and cunning better than anyone."
"So, Emily, when the time comes, just stick to the plan. Go to court as usual. We'll defend first and wait for your father to make a move. Compared to us, he's the one with the least patience."
"Mr. Smith, are you losing patience?" Andrew rarely gave opinions, but when he did, he was usually spot on.
Right now, Michael was so wrapped up in thinking about how far Daniel and Emily's relationship had gone that he couldn't focus on work. He just wanted Emily by his side. But Emily had already taken leave from JM Jewelry Company, and the work at the Watson Corporation wasn't her responsibility. As for the Smith Corporation, Emily was ignoring it.
Thinking about this, Michael clenched his fists, wishing he could rush to the Wilson Mansion and confront Daniel.
The next second, Michael looked up, eyes blazing, and asked Andrew, "Do I look like someone who lacks patience?"
The intensity of his gaze shut down Andrew's curiosity. He bowed his head, not daring to say more.
Soon, Michael spoke again. "I didn't call you here to stand around, Andrew. It's time for you to act. Find a way, any way, to get Emily here, even if you have to kidnap her!"
Andrew looked up, surprised. So Michael just wanted Emily at the company? How hard could that be?
Emily's phone rang. It was Andrew.

"Hello?" Emily answered.
"Mrs. Smith, it's Andrew," he said.
"What's up?" Emily's tone was a bit tense. Andrew rarely called her, and when he did, it usually meant something was up at the company.
At that moment, Emily realized her mom was right. She did care about the Smith Corporation and the Smith family. As soon as something happened at the Smith Corporation, she got nervous. She had completely considered herself part of the Smith family.
But some people were still wary of her.
"Mrs. Smith, it's like this. My wife is about to give birth, and her due date is in the next couple of days," Andrew said.
Emily was momentarily surprised. "What?"
Even Michael, sitting next to Andrew and listening to him lie, was stunned. He remembered the last time Andrew lied to Emily, saying he was on his honeymoon, and
the time before that, saying he was getting married. Now, in the blink of an eye, Andrew was about to accompany his wife to give birth!noveldrama
Facing the increasingly exaggerated rumors about a single man, Michael was genuinely impressed and decided to give Andrew a $5,000 raise next month.
