The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 251 Arguing in Public

"Mr. Anderson, you're quick at having kids!" Emily's surprised voice came through the phone.

Andrew replied earnestly, "Yeah, Mrs. Smith, I need you to come back to the company for a couple of days to help Mr. Smith. As soon as my wife gives birth, I'll be back. This is also Mr. Smith's wish. You know, he trusts no one but you and me."

Michael, who was eavesdropping nearby, couldn't help but feel annoyed. He wanted Andrew to get Emily back to work, but he didn't expect Andrew to throw him under the bus! When did he say he didn't trust others? Smith Corporation was a prestigious company with tons of top graduates wanting to work there. Did they really need Emily? What was so special about her?

Just as Michael was fuming, he heard Emily's response on the phone. "Okay, I'll come back today."

Andrew hung up, having completed his task, but Michael was still not satisfied. He quickly apologized, "Mr. Smith, I had no other choice... I was afraid Mrs. Smith wouldn't come."

Michael sighed, feeling helpless. At least Emily was coming back, and he could keep an eye on her to prevent her from getting too close to Daniel. Spending too much time together could lead to feelings developing, and if word got out, it would damage his dignity.

Michael said, "Alright, you can go now."

Andrew was confused, "What?"

Michael said, "Didn't you tell Emily your wife is pregnant? What are you waiting for? Go be with her!"

Andrew replied, "Yes, Mr. Smith."

Andrew took another long leave, and Emily returned to the company, immediately diving into work in the secretary's office without a word. She had managed Smith Corporation while Michael was hospitalized, so she was familiar with many unfinished projects. Taking over again was easy, and she was even more adept than before.

Emily didn't disturb Michael, still upset about him getting Abigail drunk. Michael didn't visit the secretary's office to see Emily either, but he found excuses to ask her to bring documents or coffee. Despite this, Emily's external title as Michael's wife meant everyone listened to her, and she always found a way to handle Michael's orders.

However, this mode of interaction couldn't last long without showing cracks. Especially on Monday, when all mid-to-senior level employees of Smith Corporation had to attend a meeting, and Emily, as Michael's secretary, had to be there on time. But she was unexpectedly late.

Isabella had scheduled a full-body checkup at the hospital on Monday. Emily had asked Michael for leave, but he didn't approve it, so she had to reschedule the appointment.

The checkup took longer than expected, and by the time Emily arrived at the company, the meeting had already started ten minutes ago.

For Emily, as Michael's wife, this wasn't a big deal. The employees' work reports had just started, and it wasn't time to take notes yet.

But Michael was angry. He increasingly felt that Emily's mind was no longer on Smith Corporation or the Smith family affairs. If this continued, he wouldn't be surprised if Emily became the head nurse at the downtown hospital one day.

After all, she was so eager to visit that handsome guy from the medical family every day, she must have learned a lot by now!

The more he thought about it, the more jealous he got.

So, in front of everyone, Michael didn't care about Emily's dignity. "Do you know what time it is now?"

Emily had already anticipated Michael's reaction. She took a deep breath and replied patiently, "Eight ten."

Michael frowned, completely ignoring how many people were watching the drama in the conference room. "So you know you're late, yet you still have this unhurried attitude. Emily, who taught you to be so rude? Do you know this is work time?"

Emily didn't expect Michael to be so serious. This public scolding was clearly meant to embarrass her. But Michael was the most dignified and respected person in Smith Corporation. Emily knew she couldn't argue, and even if she did, she couldn't show it easily. She had to give Michael respect.

While comforting herself, Emily explained, "Mr. Smith, I'm really sorry. I'll pay attention next time."

From Michael's perspective, Emily's apology was quick, but her expression was as cold as ice. What? She could go to the hospital to see Daniel, but coming to the company to help him for two days was so difficult? What did they have to talk about? Was it worth meeting every day, with her always going to him?noveldrama

Michael couldn't stand it and let his jealousy out, blaming Emily again. "This is not about paying attention, Emily. Everyone is busy, not just you. You're wasting everyone's time, not just mine. I think you should apologize to everyone, and also write a self- criticism and submit it to me. Your bonus for this month will be fully deducted."

The more Michael spoke, the more serious he became, making everyone feel he wasn't joking. The atmosphere in the conference room instantly dropped to freezing point.

Emily's expression became even more complex and unpleasant. But everyone needed dignity, and Emily didn't get angry in front of Michael and everyone. No matter how unreasonable the demands were, she never retorted.

But as soon as the meeting ended, Emily was the first to leave the conference room and then walked straight into Michael's office, waiting for him with a stern face.

"Emily, have you finished writing the self-criticism? You didn't secretly write it during the meeting, did you? If so, I won't accept it. You'd better rewrite it properly. I'm waiting..." Michael still didn't realize his mistake and continued to joke with Emily.

But Emily clearly couldn't take it anymore. She stood up and said to him, "Michael, don't you think you're going too far! I've explained it very clearly. I was supposed to take leave today, but you didn't approve it!"

Meanwhile, there were quite a few colleagues outside watching the drama. Most of them had just come out of the conference room and had seen the whole process of Michael punishing Emily. Naturally, they formed two factions.

Some said that Michael and Emily were just arguing. Couples argued at the head of the bed and made up at the foot. How could Michael really ask Emily to write a self- criticism and deduct her salary?

Others said that Michael didn't seem to be joking, and Emily was very perfunctory. The two were clearly a couple in name only, with a facade of harmony but discord in reality. Who knew how much they argued in private.

Arguing back and forth, neither side reached a conclusion and could only continue to observe the actions in the CEO's office.
