Chapter 0316
Knox's POV
I stood in the ruins of my father's room, the scent of rage and betrayal thick in the air. The once-majestic chamber was now a battlefield-furniture reduced to splinters, curtains torn from their rods, and shards of broken glass glittering like sinister stars on the floor. The
moonlight streamed through the shattered windows, casting eerie shadows that danced across the chaos.
My father faced me with defiance etched into his features. His eyes, once commanding and authoritative, now flickered with a mix of anger and desperation. He lunged at me, but I was quicker. Half-shifted into my 'wolf' form, I sidestepped his attack with ease. My claws- sharp and deadly-glinted as they caught the light.
"Is this what you've become?" I snarled my voice, a guttural growl that resonated deep within my chest. "A coward who preys on his own pack? On his own sons?" He responded with a feral growl, throwing a wild punch that grazed my cheek. The sting only fueled my fury. I tackled him, and we crashed into a bookshelf, sending volumes of forgotten lore tumbling around us.
"I am your Alpha, you will respect me."He roared, but I ignored him and pinned him to the ground, my hand wrapping around his throat. My claws pierced his flesh, warm blood seeping between my fingers.
"You are no Alpha," I taunted, leaning in close so he could see the contempt in my eyes. "An Alpha protects his pack. An Alpha stands by his family. You? You're nothing but a traitor."
"Knox-" he choked out, his hands clawing at my arm as he struggled to breathe.
"Do something!" Leigh spluttered, his gaze darting desperately to Adam.
Behind us, Adam had the other wolf-Father's lackey-pinned against the wall with one hand. The wolf struggled futilely, feet dangling inches above the ground. Adam watched our confrontation with a half-amused smile, his eyes gleaming with a dangerous light. "What kind of Alpha makes deals with demons and burdens his son with a hellhound?" I roared, the memory of my cursed beast igniting fresh anger. I knew Adam knew of Havic's origin; there was no way Lottie had kept that from him.
"Hey. I am no curse." Havoc moaned as my fist connected with our father's face repeatedly, each punch releasing months of pent-up frustration and pain for both Havoc and I.
"The sort of Alpha who wants his pack to thrive!" he gurgled, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.
"Don't pretend you did this for the pack." I spat. "You did it for your own greed!" My knuckles ached from the force of my blows, but I didn't care. The physical pain was nothing compared to the betrayal that burned inside me.
H"I did." He lied as he tried to push me off, mustering strength from some deep, desperate place.
"Is this what you really want to know?" Leigh rasped, attempting to claw at my face. I laughed bitterly, grabbing his wrist and slamming it against the floor.
"No, I want to know where Lottie is!" I demanded, my voice echoing off the ravaged walls.
"If you can't keep your mate in check, that is your issue, son," he sneered, a twisted grin spreading across his battered face. His words struck me like a blow. "Mate?" I repeated, momentarily thrown off balance. Behind me, Adam's voice cut through the haze.
"Mate?" he echoed, confusion lacing his tone. I clenched my jaw, pushing down the turmoil swirling within me. There was no time to delve into that complicated mess. "I'll fill you in later. It's... complicated," I muttered, waving Adam off.
"No. I know about the deal..." Adam stepped closer, his eyes never leaving Leigh's beaten form. "But how does he? He said, mate..."
"A slip of the tongue," Leigh
interjected hastily, his eyes dartingnoveldrama
around the room, searching for anything he could use as a weapon. There was nothing left-I'd made sure of that. Anger boiled inside me, not just for the lies, but for the sheer amount of people who knew about the forced rejection of Lottie-people who had actively worked against us, even knowing the suffering it caused.
"Bullshit," Adam scoffed. "My point, Knox, is he knows something..."
"It seems everyone fucking does," I growled, frustration boiling over. How many secrets had been kept from me? How many lies had I been fed? Leigh took advantage of my distraction, shoving me off with a sudden burst of strength. He staggered to his feet, fury contorting his features.
"You think you can challenge me?"
he roared, his voice deepening as he began to shift His bones cracked and reformed, muscles bulging as fur sprouted along his arms. I watched, unflinching, as he attempted to wield his Alpha aura against us mid-shift. The oppressive energy pressed in, but it was weak-tainted by his dishonour. Adam laughed openly, brushing off the attempt like one would swat a fly.
"You're not my Alpha, dumbass," Adam declared coldly, tightening his grip on the wolf struggling against my father's command. "I am an Alpha in my own right," he added with a semi-amused laugh as he threw the wolf to the floor.
I glanced at the other wolf. He had ceased his struggling, eyes wide with fear as he stared at my father. Slowly, he lowered himself to one knee, baring his neck in submission. My father looked at the wolf submitting, then to me, in confusion.
"I guess I no longer see you as my Alpha," I said, a grim smile tugging at my lips. The realisation settled heavily between us. Leigh's eyes flashed with rage.
"Ungrateful whelps!" he spat. "Everything I've done was for this pack!"
"No, Father. Everything you've done was for yourself." I shook my head slowly. Each of his decisions had been selfish, each choice driven by his thirst for power. He hadn't cared about the lives he'd ruined, about the pain he'd inflicted. He only cared about maintaining his own status, his grip on the pack, no matter the cost.
Before he could respond, the door exploded inward, wood splintering as it was torn from its hinges. Kane, Chase, and Liam stood on the other side, eyes blazing with urgency. The bolt I'd secured earlier flew across the room, embedding itself into the wall with a dull thud. "What the hell is going on?" Kane demanded, taking in the chaotic scene.
"Family reunion," I replied dryly, stepping back from Leigh but keeping a wary eye on him.
"He is no family of mine," Kane voiced, his gaze locking onto our father's with disgust, then to me. There was a silent understanding between us-despite everything, in this moment, we were united.
