Chapter 1042
Chloe was quiet for a long moment.
She turned to Summer, her face as serious as ever. "Aaron, I'm not going back. Everyone here today-they're my family now. From now on, this is where I belong."
Summer's small fingers twisted the edge of his shirt. "Mom... are you really not going back to Dad?"
Chloe hesitated, searching for the right words. But in the end, she decided to be honest. "Aaron, I've always seen you as grown up for your age, so I'm going to tell you the truth. Your dad made a huge mistake. I already had a family, but when I lost my memory, he took me away without telling anyone. I can't forgive him for that, so I won't be seeing him anymore."
She gently pulled Summer into her arms. "Even though your dad and I are apart, he'll always be your father. If you ever miss him, you can visit him in Japan whenever you want. We may not be together, but our love for you will never change."
Chloe knew this was a lot for Summer to take in.
Kids don't really understand the complicated messes adults get into.
All he knew was that his parents were splitting up, and his home would never be the same.
Summer wasn't like other kids, though.
He thought about things-really thought about them.
That's why Chloe didn't try to sugarcoat anything.
"So... you're actually Uncle Connor's wife? And it was my dad who took you
away?" Summer asked, his voice small.
Chloe froze for a second, then nodded.
Tears streamed down Summer's cheeks. "My dad is such a bad guy."
His voice got even softer. "But... he's still my dad. Mom, can you take me back? I want to be with him."
Before Chloe could react, Summer turned and ran.
Everyone watching felt their hearts ache.
Chloe hurried after him, but no matter what she said, Summer just kept insisting he wanted to go back to Japan.
That night as bedtime approached, the housekeeper showed up. "Miss Chloe, Summer's room is ready. Do you want to take a look and see if anything's missing?"
Chloe
check. The room was decorated perfectly for a child, every detail thought out-but the bed was tiny, meant for a little kid.
She said, "Can you get a guest room ready instead? Aaron will sleep with me tonight."
She didn't realize Summer and Tim were nearby.
Tim came running over. "Mom! I want to sleep with you too!"
Summer kept his head down, his voice barely above a whisper. "Mom, I really like this room. I want to sleep here by myself tonight. You and Tim can stay together." fo
Chloe had planned on sleeping with both boys.
But seeing Summer like this made her chest tighten.
It was like he was pulling away from her on purpose.
She knew her son—so kind, so fair, always wanting to do what's right. But
beneath all that, he was sensitive, too.
She could tell this had shaken him to his core.
Just then, Connor appeared.
He wrapped an arm around Summer's shoulders. "Aaron, you're bunking with me tonight."
He didn't wait for Summer to answer he just scooped him up and carried him off to his room.
Later, Connor ran a bath for him.
Summer sat on the sofa, looking lost, turning a little building block over and over in his hands.noveldrama
Connor walked over, rolling up his sleeves. "Alright, champ. Bath time."
