Chapter 1238 When He Was Glorious, Thousands Adore
The atmosphere in the private room was thick with tension, like the air was charged with electricity.
Someone's eyes landed on Raymond, sizing him up before slowly looking away.
Suddenly, a bottle flew through the air, aimed right at the rich kid's head.
Everyone turned to see who threw it. Wasn't that Carter? How did he end up working as a waiter here?
By the way, he looked pretty good in that waiter's uniform.
Carter, fuming, grabbed the guy by the collar.
"Who the hell do you think you are, talking about Raymond like that!"
Carter had been working at Sky Gallery for the past few days. He'd spent his last thousand bucks on rent and had no money left for food. Through a friend's introduction, he ended up working here as a waiter.
He'd overheard some gossip in the circle.
At first, he kept his head down, not wanting his old friends to know about his current situation.
But he did learn about Raymond's current predicament from their conversations.
He also remembered how Christopher had gone berserk in the bathroom that night, which made him uneasy.
The rich kid, still in Carter's grip and with a bottle smashed over his head, started cursing loudly.
"Fuck! So what if I said it? Carter, I can't believe you're working as a waiter at Sky Gallery now. I heard Selena promised to help you renovate your house. You introduced her to Raymond, didn't you? You two are something else, sharing the same woman. Isn't that disgusting? You had your turn and then passed her to Raymond. Doesn't that make Selena a slut? And now he's giving up the Montague Group for a slut. How stupid!"
The rich kid's face was defiant, but he got another punch to the face.
Carter, furious like a little lion, was about to throw another punch when someone grabbed his shoulder.
He stiffened and turned to see Raymond, who had been silent until now.
"Raymond."
At that moment, Carter felt incredibly sad. Raymond had always been his hero. No matter what Raymond did, he succeeded. He was never a substitute for Christopher; he was unique.
But the nature of their circle was like this.
When he was on top, everyone praised him. When he was down, everyone stepped on him.
The rich kid, seeing Raymond approach, flinched with a deep-seated fear of him.
But then he remembered that Raymond was about to lose everything, and his attitude turned defiant again.
Everyone else in the room stayed silent, waiting to see what would happen to the rich kid.
Carter was also uneasy. He had been too impulsive, making Raymond the target of everyone's attention.
But he couldn't help it.
"Raymond, let me go. I'll kill him."
As soon as he said that, he saw Raymond lift his leg and deliver a sharp kick to the rich kid's stomach.noveldrama
The rich kid crashed into the table, sending bottles and drinks tumbling to the floor, shattering.
The atmosphere was tense. Some wanted to intervene, but since Raymond was still the president of the Montague Group, no one dared to say anything.
The rich kid landed near Paul, who lifted his veined arm and tossed him aside.
"Get him out of here."
Paul's tone was disgusted, clearly showing he was on Raymond's side.
Raymond said nothing and sat back down on the couch.
Paul remained silent.
Carter quickly called the manager, replaced all the drinks, and personally wiped down the table.
The table was soaked with spilled drinks, so Carter wiped it down while picking up the broken pieces and throwing them in the trash.
Everyone was surprised. Who would have thought that Carter, once a rich kid, would be so adept at this kind of work?
At the same time, they thought Raymond was heartless, watching Carter become a waiter without giving him a dime.
Carter finished wiping the table and placed the new drinks on it.
Raymond squinted at him and gave a rare compliment.
"Good job."
Carter, now a waiter, brightened at the praise.
"Thank you, Raymond. I'll keep working hard."
Everyone was speechless.
Was Carter an idiot? Didn't he realize Raymond was mocking him? Why was he so happy?
Paul tossed a wad of cash on the table, his tone indifferent. "Tip."
He and Raymond were treating Carter like a real waiter.
What do you think?
